The world will stop spinning in just a few minutes, just ask a republican..

We need to get back to basics. Gay marriage approved in a few more states (god help us) the stock market is going through the roof! Obama's job approval is at 50% (who saw that coming?) GM didn't fail, bilk the tax payers (too heavily) and has managed to turn a record company wide profit, pay back some of their loan and give workers a bonus (it has to be a left wing conspiracy by the union workers and can not be allowed to last!), and that pesky unemployment thing keeps going down! Have the saints forsaken us?

There is some comfort, we have managed for the moment, to divert attention from all this kayos and put it squarely were it belongs, away from our failures of today to refocus on our past, abolishing abortion and contraceptives for women, making then only have sex for pro-creation, and if they mess that up too bad, they have to deal with those pesky children on their own, because any woman who can manage to get pregnant deserves to have a worthless child hanging around their neck for the next 20 years or so.  Forget the cost of the pill vs. the sanctity of life at any cost (we republicans are not really good at math but we excel at morality, just ask Newt's third wife!). We welcome the tax-exempt help from the Catholic Church, which we are relieved to be on our side for a change, after all, we, the republican party are the most holy and righteous party looking out for America's well being! Those pesky liberals have no idea how to act like good, caring, loving and obedient Christians like the Catholics do. They love a good fight, just look at all the practice they had in the Crusades!

Obama, that dirty fighter, has managed to convince half of those who bother to take polls that he is actually doing a better job in D.C. despite our best work in blocking everything he has tried to do these last few years, including sticking him with dealing with his predecessors budget for the first year in office, and making him take the heat for the three years of kayos he's had to live through by our gerrymandering. Not to mention relieving dad B and sonny from the responsibility of releasing our brethren, the lonely 1%, from paying more tax than they think is fare. After all, they create all those jobs the liberals keep harping about. And hats off to Sonny Bush, giving our defense contractors such a good long unfunded war, and for our buddies the Chinese for taking a chance on us and loaning us the trillions of buckaroos we need to sustain this darn thing, until of course, pesky Obama ended it so abruptly.

Now if we can only get involved in a war with Iran, everyone will forget that Obama's watch got Bin La din, found, shot or contained most of his minions, solved a crisis with other NATO troops protecting Libya, and got us out of Iraq and killing Saddam Hussein, even though he was a long time trusted ally in that region for decades. Nothing like a good new war to re-energize the republican base! and DADT has to come back! Every man and woman should kept in their places and act like men and women for the love of the gods. These men and women are fighting to keep the status quo,not to stir up all sorts of rubbish about 'all men are created equal" thing, which is a completely out of context statement that those pesky libertarians like to mess with.

thoughts

One of my online buds was busy wishing that today was Friday already so he could start his weekend. I am certain he, like the rest of us, appreciates hard work, and the benefits of having a day off to re-connect with things he either had procrastinated on or is looking forward to beginning.

I wondered why he, along with a lot of us, was wishing his life away, one day at a time. We have this moment, this time at our disposal now. It is for today to do or live or feel whatever we are supposed to do right this very second. The thought does occur that we do not know with any reasonable amount of certainty if we actually will wake in the morning, or make it through the rest of today.

Why not spend this moment, this day doing, feeling, expressing, loving, or breathing everything today, right now, that the moment has to offer? Why not appreciate the job you hate or the house that needs cleaning, or the dog that needs a bath and turn it around to make these things we are trying to avoid and just do what we have to to the best of our abilities and live within the moment. Been putting off making a phone call to a loved one? Don't have time to visit someone you are missing in a nursing home? Missing that time to play with your children or your grandchildren? There is no time like right now, you can always be a couch potato after you die. Then is the time to 'rest'.

SSDD from our 'esteemed representatives'

Romney is aloof, Gingrich is sly, We need more anti-abortion legislation, yet we want to reign in big government, We should all have equal freedoms, but still be discriminatory against same sex marriage, Democrats spend too much,,,but Reagan started it all...

Over and over, radio, TV, internet spin, Republican party elite think we should just shut up and listen to them, because everyone else is wrong. Thinking aloud for a moment here,  President Obama has seen some job growth, despite surviving one of the worst recessions in decades that started well before he took office, managed to change health care insurance laws so children with pre-existing conditions can stay on their parents insurance a little longer, found and eliminated that Bin laden character, oh, and helped stop a brutal war in Libya without getting US grown troops involved, and I think I'm forgetting something..oh...Ended a war in Iraq, and made plans to get us the heck out of Pakistan, without the help of a house that is determined, to hell with what America needs, lets make him a one term president, working against him with such vitriol and transparent bigotry it makes us wonder if we are back in 1956.

Where is the common sense. One Republican candidate thinks $375K is not an a lot of money, hardly worth mentioning, one has divorced sick and ailing wives twice so far, all the while carrying on affairs with the next mrs whoever. Another thinks gays should just stop being gay for god's sake. Another wants to legalize street drugs, dissolve the government and carry on. Justice for all so they maintain.

Good Grief.

morons: how twisted right wingers are

I have been able to tolerate many different opinions from a multitude of people on why the world is the way it is. I have come to that place where finally, the simple fact is right winger Christians like Pat Robertson are morons. His statement this morning that Hatti is being punished by his god for the slaves making a pact with the devil to free them from French slavery slapped me from my complacency.

Hello?

I had to back up my DVD recorder and re-watch it several times, the outlandish statement took that long to sink in completely. Apparently the Rev. Robertson talks to the devil now. I wonder if the man we know as Jesus Christ were to come back today, what would he have to say about this outlandish statement? Would he text His Father up in heaven and ask..Hey, Dad, Have you spoken to Pat again, because he got it all wrong again.

Hence my problem with religion; How could anyone claim that God is an all loving, all omnipotent and benevolent being who created everything just for humanity, and also creates the chaos, pain and suffering, hunger, bigotry, inhumane treatment, acts of nature that cause so many so much pain and suffering? I grew up with the lesson that 'we are not supposed to know, just accept that God has his reasons', though I am not at all sure god is a he, if in fact the entity does exist.

I am not sure how to end this hatefulness or address the issue of holier-than-thou's lying outright without rebuff.

Amendment two

re published with permission from the author, Rick Sosbe in full, I could not say it better........

Amendment 2 would write discrimination into constitution
By REV. RICK SOSBE – Naples, Pastor, Celebration Metropolitan Community Church
5:30 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2008
Amendment 2 is known as the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment. My question is: How will voting yes on this amendment on Nov. 4 protect marriage?20I didn’t know marriage was in danger and in need of protection.
From my understanding, the argument is that God and/or the Bible endorses marriage as between one man and one woman. When we consider the times in which Jesus walked the Earth, marriage looked quite different from our modern view of the “sanctity of marriage.” Men owned the women as pieces of property and it was permissible to have more than one wife.
Society has evolved and changed since that time.
My college degree is from an extremely conservative, fundamentalist university, where I was taught that one must properly interpret the Bible in order to understand its meaning. The interpreter must understand the language in which a passage was written, the audience to whom it was written and the cultural beliefs of the time period. It’s dangerous to take God’s sacred word literally. Doing so causes extreme confusion and oppression.
Allow me to give an example: It was Jesus who said, “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. ... And if your right hand cause s you to sin, cut it off and throw it away” (Matthew).
Shall we take this verse literally and out of context? Would Jesus endorse the mutilation of one’s body? This same chapter of scripture includes the beatitudes. The point being, if one is going to interpret the Bible literally, one cannot pick and choose what passages to follow and what ones to discard. All must be interpreted using the same criteria.
The Bible was once used to support such ghastly practices as discrimination against women and to promote slavery. I would suspect Sarah Palin is thankful the United States of America has shifted its biblical views on women remaining silent and that women are nothing more than pieces of property owned by their husbands.
I would also suspect that African-Americans are thankful that in 1865 the 13th Amendment, which states, “neither slavery nor involuntary servitude ... shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction,” was officially adopted into the U.S. Constitution. I am thankful on both accounts and for all the other times freedom has been written into our Constitution.
America is the land of freedom for all people, including gays. The gay population is quite similar to our straight counterparts. We love our partners, families and friends; we go to work; we shop for groceries; we complain about the rising cost of gasoline; we own our homes and we pay our property taxes. Why should we be denied equal rights that all Americans should enjoy?
I see the proposed Amendment 2 as fear-based — fear that gays will marry and that marriage will go down the tubes. It’s important to note that whether or not this amendment passes, gay marriage will still be illegal in the state of Florida.
Furthermore, even where gay marriage has been legalized, has marriage suffered? Those in support of this amendment give us gays way too much credit.
Maybe we should propose an amendment to make divorce illegal. Maybe that would preserve the sanctity of marriage. Jesus spoke about divorce, but he didn’t say a word about homosexuality. How should we interpret that passage of scripture? Literally?
Amendment 2 allows for discrimi nation to be written into our state constitution. As a proud American, it grieves me to think our society would support discrimination on any level. Aren’t we all created in the image of God? Whether or not one agrees with or understands a particular way one lives his or her life, our constitution should never be used to discriminate against any American. Would Jesus discriminate?
As human beings, aside from religious beliefs, how can we permit discrimination to be written into our state constitution — not to mention the hundreds of thousands of heterosexual people who are in domestic partnerships (where permitted) that will run the risk of losing income should this amendment pass.
Let’s call the proposed Amendment 2 what it is: discrimination. Most fair-minded Americans, whether or not they are Christian, would have to agree that our state constitution should never be used to deny rights, only to grant them.
I’m voting “no” on Amendment 2 and I encourage others to do the same.

Its been a while

Well it has been apparently a couple of years since I wrote anything interesting on this blog so here goes.

Gay marriage. What in hell scares so many straight folks with same gender marriage? How in heck does my getting wed to a consensual adult male have anything to frighten the so called 'christians'? Because the bible says so is not a good reason. Its like when your parents told you 'because I said so that's why'. Its not an answer. And the State of Massachusetts did not fall off the face of the earth, nor have anyone made any more money or lost any, outside of divorce lawyers getting in on the deal. I doubt anything bad will happen to the state of California either. And it doesn't seem to be a problem with most of Europe either. Are we really that backwards here?

And why is being a liberal such a bad thing? When did it fall out of favor to take care of your fellow human being? You bible folks seem to forget that golden rule you are supposed to live by, "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" I believe is the quote. With so many of you being "conservative" but you cannot even follow your own bibilical rules? I do believe these were not meant as suggestions but as a way to live your life. And then there is this whole "judge not least you be judged' thing, you all seem to be so good at judging others. Seems like those bible thumpers are good at telling you what to do but not so hot at following through.
